Geography

Fulenbach is located on 429 m above sea level. M., 10 km southwest of the district town Olten ( straight line ). The village is located on the gravel terrace north of the river Aare, opposite the Swiss canton of Aargau Murgenthal, the so-called Aaregäu the Solothurn midlands.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1226 under the name Vulenbah. Later, the names Fulenbach ( 1260 ) and Fulenbac ( 1263 ) published. The place name derives originally from a water body name. The Old High German word ful has the meaning of slow, putrescent, which is why the village name can be interpreted as the lazily flowing / smelly creek.

Since the Middle Ages Fulenbach was the property of the Counts of Frohnburg and was part of the rule Fridau, which was named after a village south of the outgoing, happy burg small town on Aareübergang. It experienced the same fate as the rule Fridau and came in 1463 under the direct rule of the city of Solothurn, where it was assigned to the Office of the Bailiwick Low Bechburg. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged Fulenbach during the Helvetic Republic to the administrative district of Solothurn and from 1803 to the district of Olten. Ecclesiastical Fulenbach formed already in 1253 an independent parish, but was cared for from 1547 to 1679 in succession from Hägendorf, Kesten wood and Wolfwil from. Since then, there is a separate parish again.

Attractions

Personalities
