Gretzenbach
Gretzenbach
History
At the time of Charlemagne ( 768-814 ), the town Gretzenbach was first mentioned in writing. The name is mentioned in the will of Bishop Remigius of Strassburg, which is dated March 15, 778. In addition, a coin with the image of the emperor Augustus was built in 1912 at the remains of the Roman house found (31 BC to 14 AD) and Hadrian ( 117-137 AD). Its name originates from the Celtic Gretzenbach ( Cressobach ).
Today's Gretzenbach includes the old Gretzenbach ( located at the Catholic Church, anterior district ) and the district Weid in the back of the village street, which also houses the still present school facilities of the village. The original Gretzenbach possessed earlier no real own schoolhouse, Weid does.
1973, until then independent municipality was merged with Grod Gretzenbach.
