Fulton Street (Manhattan)

The Fulton Street is a busy street in New York City district of Manhattan, USA.

Location

The Fulton Street is located in the Financial District in Lower Manhattan - a few blocks north of Wall Street. It runs from the Church Street at the World Trade Center in the West South Street and ends before the South Street Seaport in the east of the East River. The eastern block of the street is a pedestrian zone.

History

1780 were regularly cricket matches held in the vicinity of today's Fulton Market, as the British Army in Manhattan had their position during the American Revolution.

The Fulton Street was named after the engineer Robert Fulton, who achieved for the steam ship from the 1809 celebrity. It is characterized by many buildings in the Beaux -Arts architecture, nor the Gilded Age ( 1876-1914 ) and the time to decline shortly thereafter. The building of the early 19th century on the south side of the eastern block hot Schermerhorn Row and are listed buildings.

The Fulton Fish Market was located until 2005 near the South Street Seaport until after Hunts Point in the Bronx moved.

Transport

The Fulton Street is served by the following subway lines on Fulton Street Complex: IND Eighth Avenue Line IRT Lexington Avenue Line, the IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line and BMT Nassau Street Line. Since 2010 is built on the Fulton Street Transit Center, which will connect these stations with each other.

The East River ferries connect the road with the Fulton Street in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Ferry.
