The climate, to find the most fun runs take place in spring and autumn. However, the range of community runs extending over the whole year, and even in winter there are with winter running series and New Year's Eve runs a wide range of running events.

Demarcation to road race

A fun run is different from a road race ( in the sense of formal definition of Athletics Federations ) by less stringent participation requirements and is distinguished by less regulation of distance, implementation and services provided. A club membership and the possession of a license issued by the Association of Home Passes are not required. Often, the distances are not measured according to the guidelines of Athletics Federations, which one of the requirements would be that the times recorded were included in the leaderboards. A fun run is a large sporting event as opposed to performance- oriented sporty road race.

The boundaries, however, are blurred, because many participants and especially the very strong events are held, 'combined road and cross-country race. " Such events meet at the track surveying the more stringent criteria of a road run, allow both unbound and club runners as participants, but consider for leaderboards and optionally integrated championship ratings only owner of a dressing - start license.

Timekeeping

In runs with many participants is the traditional form of time measurement with a tripped at the launch stopwatch - or its electronic equivalent - not fair because not all starters can cross the starting line at the same time. For events with several hundred runners, it may take a few minutes until the last runner crossed the starting line. Therefore, most transponders are used, which are attached to the shoe, called running chips, or are integrated into the starting number. At the start and finish line then corresponding receivers are installed. The transponder solve the overflow of the start line from the timekeeping and register the actual elapsed time of each athlete from crossing the start line to the crossing of the finish line (so-called " net time ").

In runs with very high participation, the starter will also be sorted before the start according to their current mileages, so the favorites are already at the start in the first rows. This crosses the overall winner is usually also the first to the finish line and there is no need to wait until all the runners have reached the goal and the actual time was calculated with the award ceremonies.
