San Silvestre Vallecana

The San Silvestre Vallecana is a road race that takes place on New Years Eve in Madrid since 1964. At the event since 1978 also includes a fun run, which is now one of the most frequented worldwide.

Since 1981, women are at the start. The distance is 10 km since 1998. For road running a qualifying time of 38 ( men ) or 45 minutes ( women) must be provided. The starting positions for the fun run is limited to 29,000.

Because of the steep slope of the course, the times achieved are best fit list.

Route

Start of both races is on the Plaza de los Corazones Sagrados near the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. About the Avenue de Concha Espina, Calle Serrano and Calle Vitruvio leads after two kilometers on the Paseo de la Castellana. At its southern end, cross the Plaza de Colón. About the Paseo de Recoletos it goes on to the Plaza de Cibeles and the Museo del Prado, which is reached after about 5 km. At the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, Madrid Atocha north of the station, turn southeast onto Avenue de la Ciudad de Barcelona. Beyond the beltway M -30, one mile from the finish, the paths divide: The Road Runner running a the Estadio Teresa Rivero, for recreational runners is further south on Calle de Candilejas next to Parque Fofó to finish the race.

The net gradient between start and finish is 50 meters.
