Paul Bitok

Paul Bitok ( born June 26, 1970 in Kilibwoni ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner.

He gained international prominence when he won the silver medal in Barcelona in 5000 -meter run at the 1992 Olympic Games. In the final he was still übersprintet down the stretch in the lead by the German Dieter Baumann. At the end of missing Bitok, who ran a time of 13:12,71 min, 19 hundredths of a second for the win.

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, he scored the second place one more time. With a time 13:08,16 min this time he had a backlog of 20 hundredths of a second on the winner Vénuste Niyongabo from Burundi.

Two more silver medals he won in the 3000 - meter race at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 and 1999 in Maebashi. He was beaten by Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie both occasions. Bitok could finally win an international gold medal at the African Championships in Tunis in 2002. In a time of 13:31,95 min, it remained in 5000 meter race ahead of compatriot Benjamin Limo and the Moroccans Mohamed Amine.
