Fyodor Palen

Friedrich Alexander of the PAHLEN (Russian Фёдор Петрович Пален / Fyodor Petrovich PAHLEN; born September 2, 1780 in Jelgava, † 8 Januarjul / January 20 1863greg in Saint Petersburg.. ) ( Baron, since 1798 Graf) was a Russian diplomat, real Privy Council, Member of the Imperial Russian State Council and Governor-General of New Russia.

Frederick of the PAHLEN was the youngest son of the respected Russian courtier Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen. At first he was employed in the Russian diplomatic service in Sweden, France and the UK. In 1809 he was Russian ambassador to the United States in Washington, DC, from 1811 in Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, as well as in connection 1815-1822 in Bavaria in Munich. Later he became Governor-General of New Russia and " Namestnik " of Bessarabia, where he followed Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov in office. He was also a member of the Imperial Russian State Council. During the Russo -Turkish War of 1828-1829, he served as Governor of the Danubian principalities, which were administered by Russia as reparations of the Ottoman Empire. His official title was that of a " full- powerful President of the sofa in Moldavia and Wallachia " - in this office he was replaced on 2 February 1829 by Peter Zheltukhin.

In Jewish history Friedrich was known by PAHLEN, as he opened the first secular Jewish school in Odessa.
