Gábor Egressy (actor)

Gábor Egressy [ ga ː bor ɛgrɛʃi ] (* 1808 in Sajólászlófalva in the former county of Borsod, † 30 July 1866 in Pest ) was a Hungarian actor.

Life

The date of birth Gábor Egressys is not precisely known, it can be found in the different data sources. After he had listened to several wandering troupes of actors, he found the theater in Cluj a permanent job. Later he completed his artistic education in Vienna and was one of the most important actors of the newly opened Hungarian National Theatre in Pest since 1837. He was distinguished by rounded game, admirable facial expressions and pure lecture both in tragedy than in the conversation piece and exerted a great influence on the development of the National Theatre. The Shakespeare's dramas he brought by translations on the Hungarian stage. During the revolutionary storms of 1848 and 1849 he was sent as a Government Commissioner in the lower Tisza, but again recalled because of excessive hardness. He returned to the stage on this back, fled to suppression of the revolution in the Ottoman Empire, but received in 1854 permission to penalty and return.

Gábor Egressys brother Beni Egressy was also active on stage.
