Gabriel-Marie Garrone

Gabriel -Marie Garrone Cardinal ( born October 12, 1901 in Aix -les- Bains, France, † 15 January 1994 in Rome, Italy) was archbishop of Toulouse and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Gabriel -Marie Garrone studied in Rome, the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 11 April 1925, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a lecturer at the minor seminary and at the seminary of Chambery. In the years 1939 to 1945, he served during World War II as an officer in the French army. After his release from captivity, he took over the management of the Seminary of Chambery.

In 1947 he was appointed by Pope Pius XII. Titular Archbishop of Lemnus and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Toulouse. He received his episcopal consecration on 24 June 1947, the Koadjutorerzbischof of Cambrai, Emile Maurice Guerry.

The management of the Archdiocese of Toulouse took Gabriel -Marie Garrone in 1956. He took in the years 1962 to 1965 the Second Vatican Council and in part in 1966 Pro- Prefect of the Curia for questions of Seminaries and Universities. In 1967 he became Pope Paul VI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Sabina in the College of Cardinals. From 1968 to 1980 was Gabriel -Marie Garrone ago as Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, 1982, he was president of the Pontifical Council for Cultural Affairs.

Gabriel -Marie Garrone died on 15 January 1994 in Rome and was buried in the local cemetery " Campo Verano ".
