Galahad

Galahad (Sir Galahad, and Galahad French ) is one of the most important knights of the Round Table in the Arthurian legend. Its special position is thus expressed in some versions of the legend, that he may take on a chair place that is off limits to all other knights (see the Round Table ). He is the son of Lancelot and Elaine of Corbenic, the daughter of King Pelles.

Special

Sir Galahad is referred to as the " Pure Knight" or the " Immaculate Knights." This characteristic allows him, unlike his father, to find the Holy Grail.

His shield is white with a red cross. It symbolizes the cross that Joseph of Arimathea was drawn with the blood of Jesus gathered in the Grail. His symbolic animal is the unicorn, which stands for purity. White with red cross is indeed also the flag of England ( not Great Britain ), and thus a part of the Union Jack, but this is a symbol of St. George.

According to legend, Elaine, Galahad's mother, have fallen in love with Sir Lancelot. Through a magical trunk, she manages to Lancelot to appear in the form of the coveted him Guinevere and spend a night with him. It will become pregnant. Sir Lancelot noticed the deception only when Guinevere leaves disappointed both surprised and unfaithful lovers. Commands His chivalrous honor him to marry the daughter of King Pelles. Elaine bears him his son Galahad. As Lancelot but neither their love reciprocated still lives with her, Elaine finally dies lonely and heartbroken. The young Galahad is drawn, therefore, in the monastery of his great-aunt of twelve nuns, who explain to his father early on that no one better to own to become a knight as his son.

Galahad is introduced at a morning of Pentecost of Merlin at the court of King Arthur. He will be prepared by Merlin on the dangerous seat at the Round Table and its name appears to the assembled knights in letters of fire, as he asks to be admitted into their circle. Then it is always the previously empty space of the knight, which is to find the Grail granted.

Even before Galahad is a knight, he has already pulled a sword from a stone, an act that could accomplish only the best knight in the world. Then he gets on the orders of Arthur's from his father Lancelot knighted.

Once he has found the Grail and the only knight of the Round Table all seen, he died some time later, at his own request sarras. His last word is the name of his father Lancelot. In one version of the legend he holds the Grail even in the hands.

The name Galahad is derived from either the Wales " Gwalchafed " ( " Falcon of Summer" ) or from a place in Palestine called Gilead.
