Galmudug

Galmudug is a region in the Horn of Africa within the dilapidated state of Somalia. Its area is located partly on the areas controlled by the transitional government of Somalia territory and partly in the field of Puntland, which declared itself unilaterally independent in 1998. The independence or autonomy Galmudugs is not recognized by any other state. Due to the recent developments in the Somali civil war is unclear which areas are under the government Galmudugs. Galmudugs center is the southern half of the city and the district Gaalkacyo in the administrative region Mudug. Also on Galmudug include other areas in the regions of Mudug and Galguduud.

The name Galmudug is composed of Galguduud and Mudug.

Clan elders of Sacad, a sub- clan of the Hawiye Habar Gidir -, met the decision Declaration of Independence on 14 August 2006. Abdi Qeybdiid became the leader of the armed forces ( Galmudug Defence Force ) and Mohammed Warsame Ali appointed president.

From the south, Galmudug was beset in October and November 2006 by the Union of Islamic Courts and it came to fighting for Abudwak and Bandiradley. With the help of Puntland and Galmudug units of the neighboring Ethiopia, the Islamists could eventually push back. On 10 November 2006 requested the Galmudug Puntland also not recognized internationally, therefore, withdraw troops from the area Galmudugs.

In fall 2010, announced Johnny Carson, responsible for Africa Under-Secretary at the U.S. State Department that the United States wants to support in the future "local governments, clans and sub- clans " in Mittelsomalia. Political observers of the situation have in mind especially on Galmudug.
