Galo Blanco

Galo Blanco ( born October 8, 1976 in Oviedo ) is a former Spanish tennis player.

Life

Blanco began at the age of five years with the sport of tennis. At 14, he was by Luis Corretja, the father of Àlex Corretja, discovered and promoted. In 1994, he won the Spanish National Youth Championship by a final victory against Carlos Moyá. In 1995 he became a professional tennis player and was able to celebrate his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour in the same year in Tampere. The following year, he was first out in the top 100. In 1997 he reached the semi-finals for the first time in Kitzbühel on the ATP World Tour. After a further two semi-finals in 1998, he could win in 1999 his first and only ATP tournament victory when he defeated his compatriot Albert Portas in San Marino. In 2001 he reached the finals of Acapulco, but was defeated Gustavo Kuerten. Throughout his career, he also won four titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached position 40 in the single (1998) and 338 in the double ( 2004).

His best result at a Grand Slam singles tournament was his entry into the quarterfinals of the 1997 French Open, where he retired after his knockout victory over Petr Korda against Patrick Rafter. 2000 " retaliated " he suggested and defending champion Rafter in the first round of the U.S. Open with a 7-6 ( 3), 2:6, 6:3, 1:6 and 7:6 (5). 2001 Blanco reached with wins over Pete Sampras and Rainer Schuettler there the knockout stages.

After his professional career Blanco works as a tennis coach. He oversaw Milos Raonic, from mid-2013 to mid- December 2013 he was coach of Jurgen Melzer.
