Were is a Danish town in the middle east Jutland (Region Midtjylland, German: Region Central Jutland ). It has 7831 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) and is located about 17 kilometers west of Aarhus. In a further structural reform merged on 1 January 2007 the municipalities Galten, Horning and Ry with Skanderborg together. The total area of the new Municipality of Skanderborg covers 436.1 km ².

The Galter church was built in 1884.

Were twinned since 1986 for Lower Saxon town Sulingen in Diepholz.
