Gangway (magazine)

Gangway is an international online literary magazine from Austria and Australia, which appears in Gangan Verlag since 1996. Founder and editor is Gerald Ganglbauer.

History

On June 1, was released in 1996 in Vienna, Graz and Sydney the literary magazine gangway as one of the first journals in the then brand new medium of the Internet. Originally a quarterly publication, there are now over 40 online editions, both in German and also in English. The magazine will present " from abroad " focuses on writers in exile and emigrants ( as the editor itself), contemporary literature, poetry, short stories and experimental prose. There is also an occasional series of book reviews, interviews and special contributions. Gangway is archived digitally by both DILIMAG ( Digital Magazines ) at the University of Innsbruck, as well as by the Australian National Library in Canberra.

After the release of the anniversary edition gangway # 32 - 20 years Gangan Verlag, which was celebrated in literature Graz in June 2004, the Austrian- Australian dual nationality Ganglbauer changed the concept: there are now many online magazines; and they come and go. In a rapidly changing virtual world, it seems essential to define more sharply. The general focus of gangway is therefore moved from bilingual Australians and Austrians on all those international authors who live abroad or in exile; provided they write on - or are translated into - German or English. Since then, themed issues are cared for in an irregular appearance of guest editors. Book reviews, interviews and current special topics are also still published from time to time. In 2009, Twitter has been integrated and originally operated on Yahoo! Groups " writers cafe " ( discussion forum ) are replaced by a Facebook page.

Authors

Among the authors published so far are the Austrians Reinhold Aumaier, Lucas Cejpek, Manfred Chobot, Josef Haslinger, Margret Kreidl and Erika Kronabitter and Australian Michael Crane, Antigone Kefala and Ania Walwicz. In gangway also first publications of translations, such as the Australian writer Amanda Stewart and the Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann appeared. For a complete list of all the gangway authors is available online.
