Geography
The Samtgemeinde Gartow bordered to the west by the Municipality Lüchow ( Wendland), on the north by the Prignitz (Brandenburg), to the east by the district of Stendal, and on the south by the Altmark Salzwedel (both Saxony -Anhalt).
Samtgemeinde outline
The Samtgemeinde Gartow includes a city, a patch and three municipalities.
The Lower Saxony State Office for Statistics is one of the unincorporated area Gartow not Samtgemeinde Gartow. The size of approximately 134 km ² includes only the five member communities.
History
The integrated municipality in 1972 from original 16 independent municipalities that were merged into the five current member communities formed.
Policy
The Samtgemeinde Gartow belongs to the state election district 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.
Samtgemeinderat
The Samtgemeinderat, in addition to the integrated municipality mayor 14 other members. Since 1 November 2011, the Council has the following composition:
- CDU: 7 seats ( -1)
- UWG: 3 seats ( 1)
- SPD: 2 seats (-1)
- GREEN: 2 seats ( 1)
