Gary Panter

Gary Panter ( born December 1, 1950 in Durant, Oklahoma) is an American cartoonist and artist.

Life and work

Gary Panter was born the son of Mel Panter and grew up in Brownsville, Texas. Influenced by the paintings of his hobby indianischstämmigen father in his father's store and read one of the comic books acquired Panter in childhood a passion for the American visual culture.

For over a decade Panter is married to Helene Silverman, since 1985, he lives with his family in Brooklyn, where he was an eyewitness to the attack on the World Trade Center.

Panter is now regarded as "King of Punk Art" or " king of the grotesque ", some even as "probably the most influential graphic artist of his generation".
