Gaspard-Gustave Coriolis

Gaspard Gustave de Coriolis ( born May 21, 1792 in Paris, † September 19, 1843 ) was a French mathematician and physicist.

Life

Coriolis was born as the son of an officer and later industrialists. He attended École polytechnique the. After the death of his father in 1816 the family needed money, and Coriolis took a job as a tutor of analysis and mechanics at the École polytechnique to. During this time, he worked at various swirl motion (eg Effet of billiard balls ) and provided the first precise definition of the kinetic energy and mechanical work. After extensive studies of the motions of bodies on rotating surfaces, he discovered the Coriolis force named after him, the cause of which is the inertia of a moving object in a rotating system, which is observed from a vantage point within the system of. In addition, Coriolis published several works for Industrial Mathematics. 1836 was admitted to the Académie des sciences.

Coriolis was notably immortalized as one of 72 scientists and engineers at the Eiffel Tower.
