Gatchinsky District

The Gattschinski rayon (Russian Гатчинский район ) is located south of St. Petersburg in the Leningrad Oblast Federal District Northwestern Federal District of Russia. On 2868.7 km ² there 132 010 people ( as of 2002).

History

The Rajon was founded as Krasnogwardeiski rayon ( Красногвардейский район ) in 1927 and in 1944 renamed to its present name. As 1953 Pawlowski was dissolved rayon, parts were incorporated into the Gattschinski rayon. From 1963 to 1965, the Lomonossowski went on in Gattschinski rayon rayon. At the same time parts of the Gattschinski rajon were incorporated into the Luschski rayon. 1965 Rajon however, was restored to its old borders.

Traffic

By Rajon extend the highway R23 (formerly M20), at the same time European road 95 The A180 trunk road, part of the European Route 20, leads only over a short distance by Rajon.
