Sosnovy Bor, Leningrad Oblast

Sosnovy Bor (Russian Сосновый Бор lit., pine forest ) is a Russian city, 80 km west of Saint Petersburg on a bay of the Gulf of Finland in the Leningrad Oblast. She has (October 14, 2010 Status ) 65 788 inhabitants.

The town was founded in 1958 as a rural settlement. In 1967 there began the construction of the nuclear power plant in Leningrad, the first block was connected to the grid in 1973, the second in 1975. On April 19, 1973, the city received city rights. The most important employer is the nuclear power plant; to get a number of research institutes and facilities of the nuclear industry, as well as an engineering factory and a fish processing factory.

The current size of the city has Sosnovy Bor but mainly due to the nuclear power plant. The city is just like the cities of Pripyat and Desnogorsk a working-class city of a nuclear power plant. Almost everyone who lives in this city, working in the nuclear power plant.

Since 2008, the Nuclear Power Plant Leningrad II is built next to the existing power plant.
