Siversky

Siwerski (Russian Сиверский ) is an urban-type settlement in Leningrad Oblast (Russia) with 12,216 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The settlement is situated about 70 km as the crow south of Oblastverwaltungszentrums Saint Petersburg on Oredesch, a right tributary of Luga.

Siwerski belongs to Rajon Gattschinski and is located just 25 km south of the administrative center of Gatchina. The settlement is the administrative seat of the homonymous municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ), to continue the 3km south to rural settlement Druschnoselje and the six surrounding villages Belogorka, Bolshevo, Kurowizy, Margussy, Nowosiwerskaja and Starosiwerskaja belong.

History

In the area in the 15th century the villages Sewersko Staroje and Sewersko Nowoje mentioned at the Oredesch. The actual settlement was founded in 1857 with the construction of the railway line Saint Petersburg - Warsaw, one of the first of the Russian Empire, as there the station Siverskaya was built. Towards the end of the 19th century in the area several settlements summer home of wealthy St. Petersburg and various facilities such as a children's home.

On November 27, 1938, the settlements Kesewo, Dernowski, Druschnoselski and other surrounding were merged and given under the name Siwerski (after the station ) as " Datschensiedlung " the status of an urban-type settlement.

During World War II Siwerski was occupied from August 1941 to February 1944 by the German Wehrmacht.

Attractions

In the settlement there is the built 1889-1898 Peter and Paul Church ( церковь Петра и Павла, Petra Tserkov i Pawla ). 2009, the museum dedicated to the history of Datschnaja Stolitsa was ( " The Datschenhauptstadt " ) opened in Siwerski as one of the traditional " summer resorts " St.-Petersburg.

Economy and infrastructure

In Siwerski there are a number of companies in the wood processing ( furniture manufacturing ) and light industry and the forestry and construction.

The settlement is located on the railway line Saint Petersburg - Pskov ( - Warsaw; station Siverskaya; 67 kilometer from Saint Petersburg Baltic railway station, from where suburban train consists ). Through the village leads the regional road R40 to its portion between the leading of Saint Petersburg in the south highways M10 ( at Tosno ) and M20 ( about 6 km west of the town ).

Immediately north-west of Siwerski located since 1936/37, the same military airfield, which is no longer being actively used since the dissolution of the previously stationed there 67 Bomber Regiment in 2009 militarily.
