Nikolskoye, Tosnensky District, Leningrad Oblast

Nikolskoje (Russian Никольское ) is a city in the northwestern Russian Leningrad Oblast. She has (October 14, 2010 Balance ) 19,280 inhabitants.

Geography

The city is located about 40 km southeast of Oblasthauptstadt Saint Petersburg at the Tosna, a left tributary of the Neva.

Nikolskoje belongs to Rajon Tosno.

History

Nikolskoje was established at the direction of Peter I in 1710 in connection with the construction of St. Petersburg, as was begun in the area through the promotion of building materials ( sand and stones). Here especially stonemasons from the regions of Central Russia was settled. His name was the village after an icon of St. Nicholas of Myra, for which the settlers from 1712 to 1718 built into a first wooden chapel.

1877 a gunpowder factory was built.

During World War II Nikolskoje was occupied during the siege of Leningrad by the German Wehrmacht.

In 1958 the status of an urban-type settlement and 1990, the city law.

Economy and infrastructure

The nearest railway stations are west Popovka Krasny Bor on the route from Saint Petersburg to Moscow ( kilometer 35) and north Ivanovskaya at Otradnoe at the track direction Volkhov ( kilometer 33). Both are about six kilometers from the city center of Nikolskoje.

By Nikolskoje leads the local road which connects the north M10 highway Tosno on Otradnoe with the highway M18 in Kirovsk.
