The Gemeente vervoerbedrijf (GVB ) are the operators of the city's tram and bus network of the Dutch capital Amsterdam.

History

The GVB was officially founded in 1900. The former operation was still called Gemeentetram. In 1943, the Gemeentevervoerbedrij (GVB ) was established by merging the tramway operations with the then ferry.

Already in 1908 the first bus route was opened. Eight years later (1916 ) the electrification of the tram was completed.

After the Second World War in 1950 Amsterdam was the 1000th tramcar in the city's history. In 1969, the night bus network has been introduced. Even eight years later, in 1977, the first metro line was opened. 1990 reversed the first express tram 51 to Amstelveen. After another seven years ( 1997) the ring line was opened 50. In 2000, the GVB is celebrating its 100th anniversary. In the following years the network has repeatedly expanded and laughed changes. In 2004 the head office moved to the GVB for Arlandaweg.
