Geoffrey Ballard

Dr. Geoffrey Ballard Edwin Hall, CM, OBC ( born October 16, 1932 in Niagara Falls (Ontario ); † August 2, 2008 in North Vancouver ), was a Canadian geophysicist and businessman who is also considered one of the fathers of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell.

Ballard advocated early departure from the internal combustion engine and founded in 1979 the company Ballard Research, which later became the publicly traded company Ballard Power Systems was. The magazine Time magazine named Ballard in 1999 for his involvement away from the engine back to the fuel cell a " hero for the planet".
