Geoglossaceae

Slimy cape ( Geoglossum glutinosum )

The Erdzungenverwandten ( Geoglossaceae ) family is according to the current state of research is the only family of the order of Erdzungenartigen ( Geoglossales ) within the single class of Geoglossomycetes dar.

Features

Erdzungenverwandte usually form small, black and club-shaped fungi that are 2-8 inches tall. The hymenium is black and stands out especially in the juvenile stage is not clear from the stalk off. Capes from the same habit forth core lobes without having the hymenium, but are in contrast to the capes punctuated by their perithecia.

Your asci are inoperculat. For exact determination of a light microscope is essential. Lately species are counted with dark spores to the Erdzungenverwandten only.

Ecology and distribution

Erdzungenverwandte live saprobiontisch on the floor or dead organic material. They have a worldwide distribution, especially in mossy and swampy environment.

System

Originally described by Corda, the family moved long the systematic position and included 6 genera with 48 species. Molecular biological studies have shown that species with bright or colored spores are among the Leotiomycetes. The remaining genera with dark spores, however, are systematically isolated and now form a separate order and class.

  • Capes ( Geoglossum )
  • Hair tongues ( Trichoglossum )
  • Gelatinous heads ( Sarcoleotia )

The genera stem tongues ( Microglossum ) Spatelinge ( Spathularia ) and Blasssporerdzungen ( Thuemenidium ) are now incorporated into various orders of Leotiomycetes.
