Georg Ludwig Spalding

Georg Ludwig Spalding ( born April 8, 1762 Barth, † June 7, 1811 in Frederick field in Berlin) was a German philologist.

Georg Ludwig Spalding was the son of Protestant theologian Johann Joachim Spalding and his first wife Wilhelmine Gebhardi; the later jurist Karl August Wilhelm Spalding was his brother.

After first lessons from his father, he completed his schooling in Berlin. Upon successful completion of 1780 Spalding began to study at the Georg- August-Universität Göttingen 18 years. Later he moved to the University of Halle. His studies could Spalding in 1787 to successfully complete a dissertation and was immediately followed by a job as a lecturer at the school to the Grey Abbey.

The Prussian Academy of Sciences ( Berlin), Prof. Spalding a short time later as a member on. As such, he was able to publish in 1794 Midiam of Demosthenes; a work which Philipp Karl Buttmann revised 29 years newly published. The works of Quintilian learned by Spalding 1798 an estimated quite working (4 volumes), which later by Karl Gottlob Zumpt (Band 5) and Edward Bonnell ( Volume 6 ) were continued.

At the age of 49 years Prof. Georg Ludwig Spalding died on 7 June 1811 in Frederick field near Berlin.
