George Abel

George Gordon Abel ( born February 23, 1916 in Melville, Saskatchewan, † April 16, 1996 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1952 he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team. His younger brother, Sid Abel was also hockey players.

Career

George Abel began his career as a hockey player in the 1930s with the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in. He then took a break from active hockey and led with his brothers Don and Lawrence a transport company in Saskatchewan. In 1946 he joined the Melville Millionaires from his hometown, where he ran aground in the next ten years until 1956. In 1952 he represented Canada as a guest player with the Edmonton Mercurys at the Olympic Winter Games.

Internationally

For Canada Abel participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1952 in part in Oslo, where he won the gold medal with his team. In eight games, he scored six goals and six assists.
