George Bastl

George Edward Bastl ( born April 1, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois, residing in Villars -sur -Ollon ) is a Swiss tennis player. He is the brother of ice hockey player Mark Bastl.

George Bastl was born in Chicago (Illinois, USA), but grew up in Switzerland. In 1994 he went back to study at the University of Florida in the United States; In 1995 he moved to the University of Southern California in order to concentrate on tennis.

Since 1998 he has been a professional on the ATP Tour. His highest ATP ranking he reached on 1 May 2000 with rank 71 As the biggest success of his career is considered to be five- set victory at Wimbledon against Pete Sampras. He is also a member of the Swiss Davis Cup team. In tennis circles Bastl is also known as the " Brad Pitt of tennis," because of its resemblance to the Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.
