George Brent

George Brent ( born March 15, 1899 in Shannonbridge, Ireland, † May 26 1979 in Solana Beach, California; actually: George Brendan Nolan ) was a native of Ireland American film actor.

Life

During the uprising of the Irish 1920 Brent took part in the operations of a IRA unit by his own admission. After his flight to the U.S., he held various positions and ended up quite by accident at the theater. He arrived in the late 1920s to Broadway. With advent of the talkies, he went to Hollywood, where he signed a contract with Warner Brothers. The studio was desperately looking for a performer of romantic lovers and dedicated the tall dark-haired actor. Brent's depiction of heroic hero and his appearances as a reliable partner of established female stars, with appearances alongside Ruth Chatterton in The Rich Are Always With Us and the crash, Barbara Stanwyck in So Big and Lonely Hearts and next to Loretta Young in Marriage Weekend, led from 1932 to his rapid rise in the movie business.

The press compared with Brent Clark Gable, and in the next few years he turned with some of the biggest stars of the industry. He succeeded during the shooting of The Painted Veil to lure otherwise rather restrained Greta Garbo from the reserve and to talk to some private activities. When Warners Brent was, beginning with The Keyhole, a total of six times the partner of Kay Francis, so among other things, Living on Velvet, Stranded and The Goose and the Gander, all dating back to 1935, as well as in Give Me Your Heart from the following year. A total of eleven times, he starred opposite Bette Davis.

After he had retired from the film business in 1960, Brent successfully bred horses on his ranch. He was married four times, including with the actresses Ruth Chatterton and Ann Sheridan.

George Brent has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
