George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus

George Douglas, 4th Earl of Angus ( * ca 1429, † November 14, 1462 ) was a Scottish nobleman of the family of Douglas.

Life

George was a son of William Douglas, 2nd Earl of Angus. and his wife Margaret Hay. He followed his brother James as Earl of Angus 1446.

George acted in 1449 and 1459 from a peace treaty with England in 1451 and was of Scottish Ambassador to England. With the defeat of the "Black Douglas " George stood faithfully at the side of James II and secured by significant gains in land and property of former Earls of Douglas.

During the tutelage of Jacob III. He was instrumental as head of the so-called " Old Lords ' influence on the government. In 1462 he fought in the Battle of Alnwick victorious against the English.

The Earl was married to Isabel, daughter of Sir John Sibbald, and had with her, among other things following children:
