George H. Buck, Jr.

George H ( erman ) Buck Jr. ( born February 1, 1929 in New Jersey; † December 11, 2013 in New Orleans) was an American impresario and record producer.

Buck produced in 1949 in New York his first jazz record, when he founded his label GHB Records. In the early 1960s he owned several radio stations including in Philadelphia, Charlotte, Ohio and WTIX in New Orleans, which he headed from Atlanta. He founded and also acquired several jazz label, including American Music Records (acquired by Bill Russell), Circle Records, Southland, Audiophile Jazzology and named after the radio show, where he began his career in 1947. Today, they are all sub-label of Jazzology. , With a large catalog that reflects the decades- long recording activities of Jazz and Blues in New Orleans. In 1987 he founded The George H. Buck, Jr. Jazz Foundation. In 1987 he moved to New Orleans and business there with his wife Nina, the Palm Court Jazz Cafe in Decatur, in the Traditional Jazz was played and Buck ran a shipping plate; a large part of the records inventory was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. He died in December 2013 at the age of 84 of a heart attack.
