George Headley

George Alphonso Headley (* May 30, 1909 in Colon, Panama, † 30 November 1983 in Kingston, Jamaica ) was a West Indian cricketer. In 1934 he was elected one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year 's.

Career

George Headley celebrated his Test debut for the team of the West Indies in January 1930 against England in Bridgetown, Barbados. He took the team to the West Indies in a total of 22 matches in Test cricket, where he scored 2190 runs ( 60.83 runs per wicket ). No other West Indian player has scored more runs per wicket. Worldwide, only the Australian Donald Bradman ( 99.94 runs per wicket ) and the South African Graeme Pollock ( 60.97 runs per wicket ) have scored more runs per wicket. Its last use in a test Headley had in January 1954 against England in Kingston, Jamaica.

Others

The Hadley family was the first, which was represented over three generations in Test cricket. In addition to George Headley, who was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009, played his son Ron and his grandson Dean Test Cricket. His son also played for the West Indian team, and his grandson played for England.
