George Herman Babcock

George Herman Babcock ( born June 17, 1832 in Unadilla Forks, New York, † December 16, 1893 ), together with Stephen Wilcox inventor of the water tube boiler.

The common U.S. Patent 65.042 was evaluated by the Babcock & Wilcox Company. On 16 June 1997 both were incorporated into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Babcock came from a family of inventors and mechanics. He attended evening classes of 1860, the Copper Institute in Brooklyn. During the Civil War he built at the Mystic Iron Works ships for the Union government. Then he became chief designer of the Hope Iron Works in Providence, RI, where he met Stephen Wilcox and together developed the water -tube boilers with him.
