George Howell (Pennsylvania)

George Howell ( born June 28, 1859 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, † November 19, 1913 ) was an American politician. In the years 1903 and 1904 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Howell attended the public schools of his home and then the Pennington Seminary in New Jersey. Then he graduated from the Newton Collegiate Institute in Pennsylvania and Lafayette College in Easton. He finished his education at Illinois State University in Normal. He then worked for 14 years in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania as a teacher. For seven years he was in Scranton School Board. After studying law and his 1904 was admitted to the bar, he began practicing in Scranton in this profession.

Politically, Howell was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1902 he was in the tenth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Henry B. Cassel on March 4, 1903. The election result but was challenged by his rival candidate William Connell. As this was Objection, Howell had to cede his position at Connell on 10 February 1904.

Between 1906 and 1908 George Howell was a board member of Scranton Technical High School. Afterwards he worked until his death on November 19, 1913 in Scranton as a school board.
