George III, Landgrave of Leuchtenberg

George III. (* December 13, 1502, † May 21, 1555 ) was from 1531 to 1555 Landgrave of Leuchtenberg.

George was followed by John IV as Landgraf. He was named after his studies, advice and chamberlain of Charles V, and participated in the battle of Pavia ( 1525). For war against the Turks, he had to make due to his tenure at Duke Ludwig X and Emperor Charles horses and riders. He lent 14,000 florins besides Otto Heinrich. 1546 was by him and the Elector Frederick III. signed the Heidelberg contract, which privileges and the boundary between Leuchtenberg and the Electoral Palatinate regulated. George's brother Christoph († 1554 ) in command under Albert Alcibiades an army of horsemen. Christoph Albrecht and took Landgraf Georg on several loans, Georg was therefore cited breach of the peace before the Imperial Chamber Court. He had to leave the short reign Grünfeld, pay pillage and tripping. His brother Christopher died impoverished in a guest house in Regensburg. His second brother Hans was mentally ill and had lived most of the time in Wallerstein in the joint sister.

Marriage and issue

He married on 29 September 1510 Plassenburg Barbara of Brandenburg- Ansbach - Kulmbach, daughter of Margrave Friedrich II of Brandenburg -Ansbach - Kulmbach. With her he had four children
