George Townsend (politician)

George Townsend ( * 1769 in Lattingtown, Nassau County, New York; † August 17, 1844 ) was an American politician. Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Townsend was born about six years before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War in the Township of Oyster Bay and grew up there. With age, he went to agricultural activities. Politically, he was a member of the founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1814 Townsend was the first electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded John Lefferts and Ebenezer Sage took on March 4, 1815 which previously together represented the first district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Since he resigned in 1818 to a third candidacy, he retired after March 3, 1819 from the Congress. He died on August 17, 1844 in his native city.
