George Wiedemann

George Wiedemann (* 1833 in Eisenach, † May 25 1890 in Newport, Kentucky ) was a German brewer and co-owner of the Jefferson Street Brewery, which later became known as Wiedemann Brewing Company known.

Biography

George Wiedemann was born in 1833 in Eisenach. In 1855 he emigrated to the United States. There he worked as a brewer in Williamsburg, New York and Louisville. By the end of the 1850s has worked, for breweries Jacob Oak Leaves in Walnut Hills. 1860 Wiedemann was a foreman in the Kauffman Brewery in Cincinnati.

In 1870, he moved to Newport, Kentucky, and went into the Jefferson Street Brewery John Butchers. Eight years later he bought the shares Butchers and thus was the sole owner. 1890 reported the Wiedemann Brewery officially Wiedemann Brewing Company at. In May of the same year Wiedemann died. His sons George Jr. and Charles took over the management of the establishment. At this time, the company was with an annual output of 100,000 barrels of beer, the largest brewery in the state of Kentucky. Wiedemann is located in the Evergreen Cemetery buried in Newport.

The Wiedemann Brewing Company remained until 1967 owned by the Wiedemann family when she was acquired by the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Today Wiedemann beer from the microbrewery Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Company established in Newport.

Family

George married Agnes Wiedemann Rohmann. The couple had six children, including two sons:
