Georges Guétary

Georges Guétary ( born February 8, 1915 in Alexandria, † 13 September 1997 Mougins ) was an Egyptian- French singer, dancer and actor.

Life

At age 22, born in Egypt Guétary came to France, where he completed a song, dance and drama training. In 1944, he had next to Gilles Grangier in Le cavalier noir his first major success.

In the following years played, sang and he danced numerous operetta roles at major stages worldwide, including in London ( Bless the Bride, 1947, the Latin Quarter, 1949) and Arms and the Girl on Broadway, where he for his artistic performance the Tony Award.

International recognition, however, he reached for his film appearances in operetta adaptations and the musical An American in Paris at the side of Gene Kelly.

Nevertheless Guétary not strive for film career, but returned to his adopted home of France, where he appeared inter alia on the Châtelet Theatre in Paris and was able to celebrate as a cabaret singer with titles like Ciao Ciao Bambino and Rambino success.

In 1950 he received French citizenship. One last time came in 1996 Guétary publicly to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary on stage.
