Georgy Catoire

Georgi Catoire ( Georgi Lvovitch Katuar, Russian Георгий Львович Катуар; * 15 Apriljul / April 27 1861greg in Moscow, .. † May 21, 1926 ibid ) was a Russian composer.

Katuar studied until 1884 Mathematics at Moscow University. From 1885 to 1885 he attended the school of piano Karl Klindworth in Berlin and afterwards was a student of Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov, Anatoly Ljadow, Alexander Taneyev and Anton Arensky. Since 1916 he was a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. Among his pupils were Dmitri Kabalevsky and Leonid Polowinkin.

He composed a symphony, a symphonic poem, a piano concerto, chamber music, a cantata, choral works, songs and piano pieces, and wrote several music-theoretical writings. His style is influenced by Peter Tchaikovsky and Richard Wagner.
