Georgy Oppokov

Georgi Ippolitowitsch Oppokow (Russian Георгий Ипполитович Оппоков; * 24.jul / February 5 1888greg in Saratov in the Volga Federal District, .. † December 30, 1938 in Moscow ) was a Soviet politician and the first People's Commissar for Justice after the October Revolution.

Biography

Oppokow was the son of a noble family in Saratov. He studied from 1906 to 1910 at the University of Saint Petersburg. In 1913 he passed the state examination.

In 1917 he took an active part in the leadership at the February Revolution of 1917 and the October Revolution from the Smolny Institute and should be a member of the Constituent Assembly.

As of October 1917, he was the first People's Commissar for Justice in the Council of People's Commissars in the government under Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. From 1918 to 1921 and from 1929 to 1931 he was a member and Vice Chair of the National Supreme Council of National Economy. From 1921 to 1923 he was responsible for the fuel supply. From 1918 to 1925 candidate and then from 1934 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU.

1931 to 1933 he was with the Committee for Economic Planning, the Deputy Chairman of Gosplan. From 1933 to 1937 he was a member of the Presidium of the Soviet Control Commission.

In June 1937, he was arrested during the Stalinist purges, sentenced and executed in December 1938. He was rehabilitated posthumously in 1956.
