Gerald B. H. Solomon

Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon ( born August 14, 1930 in Okeechobee, Florida; † 26 October 2001 in Glen Falls, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1979 and 1999 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon attended public schools in Delmar. Between 1949 and 1950 he went to Siena College in Albany. In 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served until 1952. Then he visited 1953-1954 St. Lawrence University in Canton. Solomon was the Managing Director. He held the position as Town Supervisor in Queensbury. Between 1968 and 1972 he was part of the legislature from Warren County. He sat 1973-1978 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In 1976, he attended the Republican National Convention in Kansas City as a delegate.

In the congressional elections of 1978 for the 96th Congress Solomon was the 29th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward W. Pattison on January 4, 1979. He was re-elected once. In 1982 he stood as a candidate in the 24th electoral district of New York for the 98th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on 4 January 1983 the successor of Richard Ottinger. He was re-elected four times in a row. In the congressional elections of 1992, he was elected in 22 electoral district of New York in the 103rd Congress, where he became the successor of Benjamin A. Gilman on 4 January 1993. He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1998, he retired after January 3, 1999 from the Congress. During the last two terms of office he had presided over the Committee on Rules.

He died on 26 October 2001 in Glen Falls, and was then buried in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
