Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster

Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster, KG, CB, CVO, OBE, TD ( born December 22, 1951 in Omagh, Northern Ireland) is the son of Robert George Grosvenor, 5th Duke of Westminster. He is one of the richest men in the United Kingdom.

Economic activity

As the richest aristocrat of the United Kingdom, the Duke led for many years on the lists of the richest men in the country. He has since been surpassed by Roman Abramovich and Lakshmi Mittal. He stands in 2009 at number 29 of the list of the richest people in the world by Forbes magazine.

The assets of the Dukes is estimated at about 8.3 billion euros (11 billion dollars ). An essential component is land in the exclusive London districts Mayfair, Belgravia and Pimlico in a size of about 1.2 km ². There are also estates in Lancashire, Cheshire (including the manor Eaton Hall and large parts of the city of Chester ) and Scotland.

The commercial interests of the Dukes are bundled in the Grosvenor Group, which now occurs worldwide as a project developer for real estate.

In 2005, the Duke of Westminster Rector ( Chancellor ) of the University of Chester was appointed.

He was from 1995 to 2001 Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of England and Wales of Lazarus Order.

Military career

The Duke came in 1970 in the Territorial Army as a private one. He then served as a company commander and regimental commander. In 2004, he was eventually promoted as the first Reservist since the 1930s to Major General. He holds the newly created post of Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Reserves and Cadets ).

Next is the Duke honorary colonel of several units of the British Army and a Canadian regiment.

Prostitution scandal

According to British tabloids, the Duke is said to have taken early 2007 services of prostitutes. This claim that he had spoken to them about state and military secrets.

Family

Since 1978, the Duke is married to Natalia Ayesha Phillips, whose direct ancestor is the Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin and thus also its ancestor Abraham Petrovich Hannibal. The couple has four children:
