Duke of Westminster

Duke of Westminster is a British hereditary title of nobility of the Grosvenor family in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The title derives from the name of London's.

The mainly used family estate, Eaton Hall, near Chester in Cheshire; next to Ely Lodge is used in County Fermanagh. The family had in the past also a large town house in Park Lane, Grosvenor House was called.

Conferment of the title

Sir Richard Grosvenor, 7th Baronet, was of George III. 1761 appointed Baron Grosvenor and charged in 1784 for Viscount Belgrave and Earl Grosvenor. At the coronation of William IV Robert Grosvenor was awarded the 2nd Earl, the title of Marquess of Westminster. For Hugh Lupus Grosvenor, the 3rd Marquess, the title Duke of Westminster was created by Queen Victoria.

Subordinate title

The subsidiary titles of the dukedom are: Marquess of Westminster ( created 1831), Earl Grosvenor ( created 1784), Viscount Belgrave Belgrave of the County of Chester ( created 1784) and Baron Grosvenor, of Eaton in the County of Chester ( created 1761). The Marquessat heard as the Dukedom to the Peerage of the United Kingdom; the other titles are in the Peerage of Great Britain.

The courtesy title of the eldest son and heir of the Duke's title is Earl Grosvenor, one of his oldest son is Viscount Belgrave.

The present Duke of Westminster is one with an estimated fortune of € 8.3 billion ($ 11 billion ) of the richest men in Britain. In Forbes Magazine from 2009 he is listed in the list of the richest people in the world at number 29. He has, inter alia, on land of about 1.2 km ² in the exclusive London districts Mayfair, Belgravia and Pimlico, as well as the estate, Eaton Hall in Cheshire.
