Gerald Spring Rice, 6th Baron Monteagle of Brandon

Gerald Spring Rice, 6th Baron Monteagle of Brandon ( * July 5, 1926, † November 17, 2013 in Amesbury, Wiltshire ) was a British peer and politician.

Life

Gerald Spring Rice, 6th Baron Monteagle of Brandon, was born as the son of Charles Spring Rice, 5th Baron Monteagle of Brandon ( 1887-1946 ) and his wife Emilie Frances de Kosenko († 1981). He inherited after the death of his father on December 9, 1946 the title of Baron Monteagle of Brandon.

He attended Harrow School and was an officer from 1945 to 1955, most recently Captain in the Irish Guards. He was stationed in Palestine. He worked after his retirement from the military on the London Stock Exchange (1958-1976) and Lloyd's ( 1978-1998 ). He was a member of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms ( 1978-1996 ).

He lived for many years in Brandon, in County Kerry. In 2003, he lived on his estate in Glenamara, near the village of Stradbally, County Waterford in Ireland.

He died in November 2013 at the age of 87 years " peacefully " at his home in Amesbury in Wiltshire Graftschaft. The funeral took place on December 3, 2013 the funeral was at St Mary & St Melor Church in Amesbury. The heir apparent is his only son, Charles James Spring Rice, 7th Baron Monteagle of Brandon ( b. 1953 ).

Membership in the House of Lords

With the heritage of the title Baron Monteagle of Brandon Spring Rice was on 9 December 1946 Member of the House of Lords. His official oath he made on April 25, 1989. At the House of Lords, he sat for the Conservative Party. In Hansard few word posts by Gerald Spring Rice from the years of 1992, 1993 and 1996 are documented. In December 1996, he enlisted in the House of Lords last to speak. In the session of 1997/98 he was present at 60 days of session. His membership in the House of Lords ended on 11 November 1999 by the House of Lords Act 1999.

Family

Spring Rice was married on May 28, 1949 Anne Brownlow ( born 1928 ), the only daughter of Colonel Guy James Brownlow and his wife Elinor Hope Georgina Scott. He was married 64 years with his wife. The marriage produced four children, one son and three daughters.
