Geraldo Alckmin

Geraldo José Rodrigues de Alckmin Filho ( born November 7, 1952 in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo) is a Brazilian politician and co-founder of the Social Democratic Party Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira ( PSDB ). His nickname, the gave it to the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, is " picole de Chuchu ", referring to his supposed lack of charisma.

Alckmin studied at the Universidade de Taubaté Medicine, specializes in anesthesiology and worked at a hospital.

In 1977, he was charged with 25 years in the city Pindamonhangaba the youngest mayor of Brazil. Alckmin was twice, 1994 and 1998, was elected deputy governor of the state of São Paulo. In this role, he moved in 2001 to the late Governor Mario Covas after. On October 27, 2002 Alckim was confirmed by election as governor. He had held a total of 7 March 2001 to 31 March 2006 this office.

In June 2006 Alckmin was chosen by the PSDB candidate for the presidential election of 2006, in which he was the only promising candidates are incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. After none of the candidates on October 1, won an absolute majority in the first ballot, he lost on 29 October runoff election against Lula.

2010 Alckmin ran again for the office of the Governor of São Paulo and was successful in the first ballot, he joined on 1 January 2011 at his office.

Alckmin is, as well as his party, an economic liberal social democrat. He is married and has three children.
