Gerard de Rooy

Gerard de Rooy (born 21 June 1980) is a Dutch marathon rally driver and conductor of the transport company de Rooy. His father is the former Rally Dakar winner Jan de Rooy.

13 years after the accident, in which a teammate of his father, Kees van Loevezijn, died in an accident, and Jan then withdrew from racing, Gerard convinced his father about to start again with the racing. 2002 Jan takes along with his son again participated in the Dakar Rally. First, both started on a DAF CF 85 at the "Dakar " and they finished in sixth place.

From the following year they drove separately. Gerard started on your own truck, a DAF CF 75 For its first participation, however, he fell out. In 2004, he came as a surprise to the podium by he made it to third place. He was "only" fifth in 2005, but was able to beat his father Jan, who crossed the finish line behind him a place. The de Rooys traveled in 2006 as favorites to the start of the rally to Lisbon, but the team suffered a major setback as there were problems with the FIA homologation of their DAF Trucks. Previously, the regulations were changed, their trucks but not adapted to the new regulations.

The de Rooys translated from this time on the brand trucks Ginaf. Gerard de Rooy was the 2007 Dakar Rally, as well as Jan, not end it. The 2008 Dakar Rally was canceled due to terrorist threats. Instead, he took on an Iveco Trakker on the Trans-Siberian Rally, which runs from St Petersburg to Beijing over Astana, in part. But he could not reach the goal.

Gerard de Rooy took part in the 2009 Dakar Rally in South America in part, this time as the only driver of the de Rooy family. He gave himself a tough competition with the factory Kamaz of Chagin and Kabirov to them but ultimately had to admit defeat. In the end he was again in five years, third and was able to score three stage wins.

During the Dakar Rally 2012, he finally won the Truck standings.
