Gerard Donovan

Gerard Anthony Donovan ( born May 16, 1959 in Wexford, County Wexford ) is an Irish writer whose novel " Winter in Maine " was chosen in 2008 by the Guardian newspaper as " Book of the Year 2008".

Life

After childhood and youth in Galway in Ireland Donovan studied philosophy and German. After graduating, he moved to Germany, where he first worked in a cheese factory and was then employed at the Technical University of Hanover. He returned after some time back the early 1980s after Ireland and studied in its capital Dublin for seven years, the classical guitar. In the following years he earned as a musician with focus Johann Sebastian Bach some money. At the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, he put in the 1990s from the master. Since then he has taught at a college in Long Iceland.

Beginning of the 1990s, he also began his literary works and published the first volume of poetry " Columbus Rides Again ". He also published several short stories. His first novel, " Schopenhauer 's Telescope" was published in 2003 in English. With his brothers, he took part in Morocco at the "Marathon des Sables ". Today he lives in New York City.
