German Technical University in Brno

The German Technical University Brno was founded in 1849 German -language university in Brno.

History

The origin of the university dates back to the founding of an academy for the knightly exercises, including excellent salutary Engineering in 1724 at the University of Olomouc. In May 1843, the Academy was moved to Brno, 1849, the university was founded to parallel the Czech Technical University Brno ( Vysoke učení technické v Brně ) to life gerufen.Im 1899 because the originally planned bilingual teaching and research activities as impractical had been found (compare German and Czech Technical University in Prague and see also main article Austro- Czech equalization). In October 1899, an extension was completed on the occasion of the 50th anniversary. In early November 1910 opened by conclusion of a stone was laid in 1896 the members of the local faculty architect Ferdinand Hrach ( 1862-1946 ) designed extension.

After the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the DTH Brno remained despite some resolution plans. A native of the kk- time self-administration of universities has been largely retained. The DTH Brno comprised the following " professorships " ( = faculty ): mathematics, physics, mineralogy, teaching machines, land, water and road construction, chemical, agricultural economics, accounting and Silo. The students represented in their origin and religion the old multi-ethnic state of the Habsburg Monarchy and its cultural watershed.

After the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and thus the violent destruction of Czechoslovakia by the German Empire, the DTH Brno should be moved to Linz, but this was omitted by the outbreak of war. The introduction of higher order according to Berliner pattern was perceived as a step backwards in Brno ( and Prague). After the war ended in 1945, the DTH Brno was closed. Their bodies were taken over by the Czech Technical University, which was dissolved during the protectorate period ( starting from 1939).
