Gerra (Verzasca)

Gerra (Verzasca ) is a fraction of the community Cugnasco - Gerra, in a circle Navegna in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Gerra ( Verzasca) located in the Valle Verzasca on the mountain river Verzasca and is surrounded by chestnut forests.

Merger with Cugnasco

The formerly independent municipality was merged on 20 April 2008 Cugnasco the new community Cugnasco - Gerra. Thus, belonging to Gerra Gerra exclave piano is connected in the Magadinoebene with the settlement area of Cugnasco. The vast majority of the population (about 1000 people) of the former municipality lived in the enclave Gerra Piano.

History of the merger

2004/ 05 failed a fusion of Gerra Piano and Gerre di Sotto ( a part of the city of Locarno ) with Cugnasco to the municipality Cugnasco - Gerre.
