Locarno is a municipality in the district of Locarno and place of the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The former German name Luggarus is no longer used today.

Geography

The city of Locarno is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, on the eastern edge of the Maggia delta. The district of Monti della Trinita and the community Orselina nestle on the hillside above the town.

History

Traffic

Madonna del Sasso, Cardada and Cimetta

The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso in Orselina above the city is the main attraction of Locarno and also the most popular place of pilgrimage for Italian-speaking Switzerland.
