Géry Leuliet

Gery -Jacques -Charles Leuliet ( born January 12, 1910 in Richebourg - l'Avoué, Pas- de -Calais, France) is a retired bishop of Amiens.

Since the death of the Vietnamese Bishop Antoine Nguyên Van Thien on 13 May 2012, he is the oldest Roman Catholic bishop in the world.

Life

Leuliet ordained a priest on July 8, 1933, Arras in northern France. It was after the end of World War II, first professor and Superior, in 1951 rector of the college in Saint- Pierre in Calais ( Collège Saint- Pierre à Calais ). He was also Domdekan of Notre Dame in Calais. In 1953 he was Victor -Jean Perrin, Bishop of Arras, was appointed head of the diocesan administration. He was vicar-general and archdeacon for rural diocese. He was involved in Catholic Action.

On 14 February 1963 he was John XXIII. appointed bishop of the diocese of Amiens. He received his episcopal consecration on May 9, 1963, the Bishop of Arras, Gérard Huyghe. Co-consecrators were René Stourm, Archbishop of Sens, and Victor -Jean Perrin, Bishop Emeritus of Arras. He was a Council Father of the second to the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council. After the end of the council, he was involved in the decisions of the Second Vatican Council and worked closely with the Mission de France and Paul Clabaut and Pierre Ysebe together.

His resignation was accepted in 1985 by John Paul II. For the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council in 2012 Leuliet expressed the wish that the Catholic Church even more implements the decisions of the Council into action.
